Why BWB
The flame photometer, redesigned
Most flame photometers still work like the 1950s originals: one filter, one element, recalibrate, repeat. BWB rebuilt the instrument from the ground up.
Simultaneous detection
Up to five channels read Na, K, Li, Ca and Ba at once. No filter changes, no re-calibration between elements.
Just add gas
Built-in air compressor and gas regulator. Calibration standards, labware and software in the box — results within an hour of unpacking.

Internal standard: a fixed amount of lithium or caesium is added to every sample and standard, and the instrument reads the ratio to it. This compensates for flame drift and matrix effects — better accuracy for serum, soil extracts and other complex samples. Caesium is used when lithium itself has to be measured. “–” means direct measurement without an internal standard, usually enough for clean samples such as water.

What does a flame photometer measure?
A flame photometer (flame emission spectrometer, FES) measures alkali and alkaline-earth elements — sodium (Na), potassium (K), lithium (Li), calcium (Ca) and barium (Ba) — in liquid samples, by the light they emit in a low-temperature propane or butane flame.
Flame photometer or AAS / ICP?
For Na, K, Li, Ca and Ba a BWB flame photometer gives comparable results at a fraction of the purchase and running cost of AAS or ICP: no hollow-cathode lamps, no argon, no acetylene — just propane or butane. Many labs use it to free their ICP/AAS for other elements.

What gas does it need?
Propane, butane or LPG (natural gas with modification). The air compressor and gas regulator are built in, so no external compressor is needed.
How fast is the analysis?
After warm-up, a stable reading is obtained in less than 15 seconds per sample, with all calibrated elements displayed at the same time. With the AFHS autosampler up to 89 samples run unattended.
