Flame photometer for soil, fertiliser and plant analysis

Potassium is the nutrient every agricultural laboratory measures. The BWB SOIL reads potassium, sodium and calcium simultaneously in soil extracts, fertilisers and plant digests — in seconds, with a propane flame, at a fraction of the cost of ICP.

Typical samples

Typical samples

Soil extracts

Exchangeable K, Na and Ca after ammonium-acetate extraction; soil sodicity and ESP.

Fertilisers and potash

K₂O content in potassium chloride, NPK blends and liquid fertilisers (after dilution).

Plant tissue

K, Ca and Na in dry-ashed or acid-digested leaves for nutrient diagnostics.

Irrigation and recycled water

Na and Ca for SAR and salinity control, including treated effluent.

Hydroponic and greenhouse solutions

Routine K monitoring of nutrient solutions.

Compost and growing media

Soluble K and Na in substrate extracts.

Why BWB

Built for the agricultural laboratory

  • K, Na and Ca at once. One aspiration, three results — no filter changes between elements.
  • Accurate calcium. Enhanced Ca detection with automatic correction for high-sodium interference.
  • Internal standard. Lithium or caesium internal reference compensates for matrix and flame drift.
  • Printer as standard for sample traceability at the bench or in the field.
  • Portable. Built-in compressor and regulator — runs in a field lab or the back of a van on bottled propane.
  • Low cost per sample when the season brings hundreds of soil samples a day — add the AFHS autosampler for unattended runs.

Which BWB to choose

FAQ

Common questions

Can a flame photometer replace ICP for soil potassium?

For K, Na, Ca and Li, yes. Flame photometry is the classic technique for exchangeable potassium and gives comparable results at a much lower purchase and running cost. Many labs keep ICP for micronutrients and move routine K/Na/Ca to the flame photometer.

Does it need acetylene or argon?

No. BWB instruments use propane, butane or LPG, with the air compressor and gas regulator built in.

How fast is it?

After warm-up, a stable reading takes less than 15 seconds per sample, with K, Na and Ca displayed together. With the AFHS autosampler up to 89 samples run unattended.
