Lithium analysis by flame photometry

Lithium has one of the strongest flame emissions of any element, which makes flame photometry the fastest and most economical way to measure it. BWB builds dedicated multi-channel lithium analysers with a detection limit of 0.02 ppm — a practical complement to ICP for routine, high-volume Li work.

Why BWB

Why measure lithium with a BWB

  • Several lithium channels. The BWB Li uses multiple Li detectors, each calibrated over its own range, for accuracy across a wide concentration span.
  • Low detection limit. LOD 0.02 ppm, LOQ 0.05 ppm; up to 1000 ppm with multi-point calibration and more with dilution.
  • Matrix awareness. Multi-element models read Na and K at the same time, so you see the matrix you are working in.
  • Internal standard. Caesium internal reference available on multi-element models.
  • Online option. Collection cup and 4–20 mA SCADA output turn the instrument into a 24/7 process analyser.
  • Low running cost. No argon, no lamps — ideal for keeping routine Li off a busy ICP.

Which BWB to choose

FAQ

Common questions

Is flame photometry accurate enough for lithium?

Yes. Lithium emits very strongly in a low-temperature flame, and BWB's multi-channel design gives a reproducibility better than 1% CV. For routine lithium in brines, process streams and pharmaceuticals it is a fast and economical alternative to ICP-OES and AAS.

What about high-sodium brines?

Specificity between Na, K and Li is better than 1% at equal concentrations. For brines with very high sodium we recommend dilution and matrix-matched standards — we will help you set up the method.

Can lithium be monitored online?

Yes. The BWB NUCLEAR and other models with the collection cup run continuously, with a 4–20 mA output linked to SCADA.

Who supports BWB in Israel?
